Butlers Walsall Limited notifies Croydon Council that they wish to withdraw their planning application to demolish the current public house.
This week Croydon Council has updated its planning register to show that Butler Walsall Ltd has withdrawn its planning application 19/05926/FUL.
19/05926/FUL | Demolition of the existing public house building and the construction of a new building to re-provide a public house together with the erection of 36 residential units (Use Class C3) and associated means of access and landscaping. | The Glamorgan 81 Cherry Orchard Road Croydon CR0 6BE
This withdrawal by Butlers Walsall Limited was not surprising following requests for more supporting evidence from the applicants in support of their plans to demolish the existing public house by both the Mayor of London and Croydon Council planning departments. Concerns were raised about the height of the building; the amount of affordable housing provision; the viability of the proposed replacement licenced premises on the ground floor due to their small size; and whether it was an adequate replacement for a once-popular Asset of Community Value all set a high bar.
At the time of writing, no word has been heard from the developers, Butler Walsall Limited on their next steps. The Save the Glamorgan Campaign holds its next meeting on 31st March 2021 by which we should have more information on what is happening.
