The Mayor of Croydon, Cllr Sherwan Chowdhury, will be visiting Dartnell Road on 21st November 2021 to officiate over the re-opening and renaming of Dartnell Road Amenity Site as Dartnell Park. The event starts at 2.30pm. The Mayor will be joined by Croydon’s Poet Laureate, Shaniqua Benjamin, who has composed a poem for the occasion.
The community-led revitalisation of the Park
Over the last 18 months, residents, led by Andrea Perry and the Friends of Dartnell Park, consulted the community on what they wanted from the Park and developed a plan to bring it back to life. These volunteers worked together to fundraise for new park benches, planters, paving, and new paths. Nearly £10K has been jointly raised by a local crowdfunding campaign and substantial support from a Travis Perkins Foundation. Since the summer, L&Q Homes and PJ Colohans have worked hard to install the new paving, paths, planters and benches. The overall programme of work is not yet finished but should be complete by the 21st.
All are welcome to the event, though we ask you to keep your dogs at home. But, of course, dogs are welcome at all other times.
If you live locally in this part of Addiscombe, please come along. It’s a chance to meet your neighbours, make new friends, and help cement the bonds of the Addiscombe community.
