East Croydon Medical Centre Re-Opens

East Croydon Medical Centre Re-Opens

The rebuilt and substantially expanded East Croydon Medical Centre reopened in late 2023.
The new centre sees not only a doubling of GP capacity in consulting rooms,
but also additional nursing and pharmacy facilities to meet existing patient and
community needs, and increased population demand through new developments in
the Town centre and Addiscombe.

The newly rebuilt centre reflects a partnership approach between the GP Practice (the
largest in Croydon), The NHS in Croydon and Croydon Council, under the
previous Labour administration, supported the scheme through the development
contribution funding.

Unfortunately, similar multi-purpose clinic projects in New Addington and Coulsdon,
utilising transferred Council assets has stalled due to substantial building inflation
costs over the last year, put in place by the short-lived but disastrous Tory
Government Budget of late 2022, and additional BREXIT costs in Labour and
materials.

The New East Croydon Medical Centre is an example of how new health and public
investment can work in partnership when the needs of local people are prioritised
at a local level, and there is stability nationally in the management of the economy.”
