Dramatic progress has been made in July and August to Dartnell Park with workers from L&Q and their groundworks contractor P Coholan Ltd, installing a new gravel path and three timber planters. L&Q is building a new housing development on Addiscombe Road and as part of their commitment to the local community, they are working with the Dartnell Park Friend’s Group to improve this long-neglected urban park.
Over the course of three days, the team of workers toiled in the pouring rain, to install a new gravel path, to help make the green space accessible to those in wheelchairs or pushchairs. They built three timber raised beds and filled them with topsoil, which was quickly planted up by volunteers from the Friends Group.
The next stage of works to transform the park will be the installation of new Park Benches and relaying of the concrete paving stones to make the area near the entrance safer underfoot and more welcoming for visitors to sit and enjoy the improvements. These works are likely to take place in September and again will be supported by L&Q and Colohans. The new benches are being funded from the successful Crowdfunding campaign which the Friends Group ran earlier in the year, which raised over £3500. The Friends Group was also successful in getting a grant approved for £5900 from the Travis Perkins Foundation (Community Legacy Fund).
If you live locally to Dartnell Park you can join the Friends Group. There are frequent volunteer days, and community events, and all are welcomed.
